Three Ways to Live a Longer, Healthier, Happier Life

We think we are outperforming our great-grandparents in terms of longevity because we have supposedly added another decade of life expectancy, but this may not be the case. Our last couple of decades invariably involve a variety of pharmaceutical props and if "health is happiness" then we may not be doing too well. In fact, if we look at the number of centenarians per 100,000 in 1900, there were actually more. The expectancy figures are fudged in the sense that advanced surgery, antibiotics and disease management were not players. If you actually survived the hurdles, you lived longer in 1900 – and you had no props.

Here are three simple changes to diet and lifestyle that are proven to extend your life and improve your health:

1. Restrict your calories

It was recently discovered that centenarians all have one thing in common – they have low blood insulin. This dovetails with multiple calorie-restriction studies, which have shown that if you can maintain a diet involving 2000 calories a day, there is a significant increase in lifespan. Low blood insulin is low calories, as insulin is produced in response to a spike in blood sugar (calorie intake). 2000 calories can still involve plenty of food, but you must lose the sweet tooth.

2. Increase your antioxidant intake

The most popular concept in the science of longevity involves the free radical theory of ageing. When you accumulate enough free radical damage, you die. The very simple antidote for this grim outcome is to increase your intake of antioxidants, which quell these free radical fires. It needn't involve supplements (with the exception of vitamins C and E), but you need to increase your intake of fresh fruit and vegetables (preferably without the chemical residues). Juicing and green smoothies are the best way to do that. Vitamin C is the workhorse of your detoxification system and vitamin E is the most important nutrient to maintain a healthy brain. BioSpark™ from NTS is one of the few vitamin C products available that contains the required buffering minerals and bioflavonoids to ensure an optimum vitamin C kick. The highest source of all 8 forms of vitamin E is Red Gold™ from NTS. Red palm oil contains the highest carotene and full-spectrum vitamin E of any source and it is a delicious saturated fat that actually sponsors weight loss by increasing metabolism (burning more calories).

3. Lose your gut fat

You can try to fight your way through a mountain of conflicting nutrition information, or you can understand this simple fact and act upon it. If you have a spare tyre, your chances of succumbing to the ten most common conditions that kill us are increased by 500%. Abdominal fat cells are a nightmare. They produce a range of substances, including inflammatory compounds that are terribly destructive. They even shut down leptin, which tells us when we have had enough food. It is like you have an alien affixed to your front that is driving your behavior to sustain its own evil existence. Lose the alien and you will dramatically increase your chances of making the long haul.
